IEM - Advanced Job Management
Design Detail: Resource Planning for Jobs
IEM supports two levels for Resource Planning are supported:
- Per individual resource.
- Per resource group.
The link from Job Tasks to Time Registration is established via the Resource Task. There is a one-to-one relationship between the Resource Task and the Job Task. The Resource Task is maintained with an Action Handler from the Job Task Lifecycle. With that Action Handler the system automatically creates a Resource Assignment in Time Registration when a resource is allocated to a job task.
The preferred path for planning resources is to start with a budget as a pre-calculation of the Job costs. These budget lines can either be per resource group or per resource. To start the actual work preparation when the Job Status is Open, budget lines have to be copied to the Job?s Resource Planning lines.
As of the IEM 2017 MidYear Update also Resource Groups can be copied to the Job Resource Planning. In earlier versions the resource groups have to be broken down in individual resources using the Breakdown action in the Job Budget Lines. As of the IEM 2017 MidYear Update the Resource Group can be "Expanded" in the Job Resource Planning line, when expanding the planner can select all or some of the resource group members,
When the work preparation is completed and the planning lines are released resource tasks are created (or updated) from the Job Tasks together with assignments to these resource tasks for the planned resources (when expanded) or for the Resource Group. The create/update and assignment actions are handled through the Job Task Lifecycle by changing the state to execute.
When the Job Status is Quote and Allow Assignment from Budget Line is on in the Job Setup it is also possible to create resource tasks and assignments based on the Job Budget Lines. When posted Expected Resource Cost entries will be created. These entries will be converted to Resource Ledger entries when the Job Status is converted from Quote to Order. At that time also the assignments to the Resource Task will be removed.
To support this planning method a number of additional features are available:
- Assign Resources from Budget Lines in Job Quotes.
- Controlling budgeted hours and Completing Resource Tasks.
- Set work type verification per Resource Group.
- Invoice resource ledger entries posted by subcontractors.
- Time entry for team leads.
- Copy time sheet.
- Approver Groups.
