Planning and Estimating

Planning and Estimating a Job

In the Planning state the first outline of the Job is created. You can make preliminary calculations and prepare the job's structure. Since projects are customer specific the project is assigned to either a customer or a contact in combination with a customer template, when the Job is promoted to the order state the customer will be created from the combination of Contact and Customer template.

The Job Deliverable is defined as a short description but can be further extended in the Comments section or by using the One Note integration or by attaching specific documents by dropping them in the Document Management fact box. From the deliverable you can create a Service Object to involve the service department in the project early.

The Deliverable can be broken down in 1 or more Elements and for each Element you can estimate a total cost per cost type (Material, Expenses and Equipment) and / or attach the Activities required to create that Element. The total of the Activities represent the cost type Resources. For each Element you can create a Cost Estimate per Job Cost Type. Activities are of the Job Cost Type LABOR and for each Element you can define what other Job Cost Types are estimated: MATERIAL, EXPENSES and EQUIPMENT.

With the Create Job Task Matrix you can create the Job Tasks as work packages based on the combination of Element and Activity. The Estimate as created in this state of the Job will remain with the Job for later analysis.
