How to set up Allergen Codes

A new page has been created to enter the appropriate allergen codes and their descriptions.

In essence, every country has its own definition of what an allergen is, there no single list of allergens that is applicable for all the countries in the world.

In order to support this, the user can define his or her own list of allergens by entering a code and a description. If necessary, an allergen can be blocked from use. However, blocking an allergen can only be done when that allergen is not part of a current allergen-set linked to an item, unapproved item or a BOM. The nature of the database prohibits the deletion of an allergen once it has been used anywhere in the system. Deleting an allergen can therefore only be done when it has not been added to a source.

In order to check where an allergen is used, it is possible to use the "Where Present" functionality. This creates a view of items, unapproved items and BOMs that contain a reference to that allergen. The presence can be twofold. It can either be of the type "Allergen" or it can be of the type "May Contain". This is determined when an allergen code is linked to an item, unapproved item or BOM.

The view of the allergen presence is split between the three objects to which allergens can be linked. The list of where the allergen is present will therefore be dependent on the choice made in the COUNT-factbox for either Item, Unapproved Item or BOM.

Of course, linking an allergen to an item or BOM can have consequences to other items or BOMs that are linked to it. That is why a procedure called "Allergen Rollup" is created. This procedure is described in a separate page.
