How to link and view allergens and items
You can link allergens to items, unapproved items, and BOMs, and declare them as Allergen or May contain. The distinction is clear. An allergen is a proven and measurable attribute of an item. May contain is a possible warning to producers and consumers, based on the risk of cross-contamination somewhere in a production process. Depending on local law, mentioning May contain information on labels may be mandatory, allowed, or forbidden. You must determine how to conform to local legislation.
Setup
On the Item page, on the Assembly/Production tab, use the Allergens button to view allergens currently assigned to the item. On the Unapproved Item page, the button is on the Navigate tab. Selecting New lets you link allergens to the item, on one condition: the item must not have a link to a production BOM (formula, process, co- & byproduct, or packaging), and it must not be part of the output of such a BOM.
The reason is that items that are produced cannot carry allergens of their own. They can only inherit allergens from the process in which they are produced.
When you link an allergen to an item, you must also determine whether it is of the type Allergen or May contain. If May contain applies, the vendor of these items should be able to explain the production process and identify any risk of cross-contamination and its possible consequences.
Allergen history
After you add an allergen to an item, or when allergen information changes, you can view the change in the Allergen History page. This page shows the number of changes made to the allergen information of the item, together with the content of the change, the date and time stamp, and the user who entered the change. Depending on the number of changes, you can view the differences from one allergen set to another, allergens added or deleted from the item, as well as the type (allergen or May contain).
