How To: Assemble an Item Planning Line

Assembly BOM's can be used in 2 ways

  1. As components for a, job specific, Assembly Order.
When required use the Create Job Assembly BOM action, from the Budget Line to create a, Job Specific, version of the items' assembly BOM. In the Budget Line this action will create an Assembly Quote.
With the Show Job Assembly BOM action you can open the assembly quote lines to modify the components of the assembly in order to make it Job Specific. When the budget line is copied to a planning line the assembly quote will be made into an Assembly Order.
Use the Update Project Unit Cost action the calculate the, new, total cost for the assembly and update the project unit cost field on the Job Budget line.
In the Planning Line you create an Assembly Order without expanding the assembly BOM. Once the assembly order is created you can modify the assembly lines as required. In this scenario posting the assembly order will create the actual costs in the Job.
  2. As a set of components to create budget - or planning lines.
In the budget - as well as the planning line use the Expand BOM action to expand the assembly BOM as budget - or planning lines. The Quantity Per field on the parent item will be set to 0. However, this field can be used to change the quantity of the complete set. (The previous quantity will be saved in a, hidden, field "Quantity Before BOM Explosion)
Once expanded you can modify or delete components. To add components select the parent item and then click the Add Components line in the ribbon and select am item nr in the pop-up.

To Assemble an Item Planning line follow these steps:

  1. Complete and Release the Item Planning line, make sure Replenishment System is set to "Assembly" and the Bill of Material is NOT expanded when the Job Item Planning Line is Job Specific.
  2. Select the Job Item Planning lines for which you want to create an Assembly Order. Hold down the Ctrl key to select multiple lines.
  3. Click "Create Assembly Orders" in the ribbon to open the Create Assembly Orders dialogue. The pop-up only has one option: Order, confirm the pop-up to create the order.
  4. The program will show a message: "The lines were successfully transferred to [99] assembly order(s)."
