How to link and view allergens and BOMs

You can link allergens to a BOM in two separate ways. The first way is through ingredients. When ingredients contain an allergen, processing those ingredients into another product transfers the allergens to the newly created product. The second way is at the May contain level. If production of an item takes place on a machine or in a production room where allergen-containing items are also processed, there is a risk of cross-contamination. You can enter this risk at the BOM level as May contain.

You can link allergens to a BOM only at the version level. The results are visible at the BOM level.

Adding allergens to a BOM through ingredients requires you to run the Rollup Allergens action. This action looks at all BOM components at all levels, determines whether individual items contain allergens, and rolls them up to their associated BOM level.

Notes Only BOM versions with status Certified are included in the allergen rollup. BOM versions with status New or Under Development are not included.

To link an allergen to a BOM version, first set the version to Under Development. On the Navigate tab in the ribbon, use the Allergens button to add allergens of the type May contain.

To view allergens linked directly or indirectly to a BOM, use the Allergen Detail button. This provides an overview of allergens at the BOM level, created on the spot with all available information at the current time, regardless of the current status of the BOM version.
