How To : Link Service Orders to Jobs

When service orders are integrated to Jobs all costs from the service order are consumed to the Job. The integration is based on the Service Order Types&nbsp.

Set the Service Order Type

  1. In the Search box, type Service Order Types.
  2. Select Service Order Types to open the list of Service Order Types
  3. The main setting is the Job Management boolean, when on the Service Order can be and must be linked to a Job and when posted only the consumption option is available at posting time.
  4. A Job Template can be specified to support the automatic creation of Jobs.
  5. The Job Nos. setting determines the number for the Job, either the same number as the Service Order or as per the setting on the Job Template.

Create a Service Order linked to a Job

  • When a " Job Management " Service Order Type is selected the user will be prompted: "Do you want to create a new job based on the base template settings (yes/no)?
Note The service order type muste be selected after a customer has been selected.
    • Yes = the Job is created as per the settings on the Service Order Type.
    • No = the Job is not created and the user can select an existing Job when the service order is complete.
  • Once the service order is linked to a Job the Service Item Line must be linked to a Job Task. In this way a service order can contain many service items and each line can be linked to its own Job Task
  • The consequence of linking the Service Order to Job is visible when posting usage to the Service Order: only the Qty. To Consume field is filled and only the Ship and Consume posting option is available. The Qty. to Invoice field is not editable. The posting will create a Job Ledger Entry in the linked project
