How To: Deliver Material

Job Inventory is depleted by either Consuming it in the Job or Deliver it from the Job. Consuming means that the life of the component ends in the Job and becomes part of the Job Deliverable. Deliver means the component is either first delivered to a project site before being consumed in the Job or the component is delivered to the customer as a separate part of the Job Deliverable, however when completed the material is still consumed. Delivering is postponed Consumption.

Notes:

  • Deliveries are different from a Deliverable: A Deliverable is the end-result of a Job while Deliveries are a method to deplete Job Inventory.
  • Deliveries can only be made from available Inventory (both Job Specific and Not Job Specific), in other words inventory cannot go negative.

Create a Delivery from a Job

With the Business Central release of IEM Jobs are integrated with Warehouse Management and it is no longer required to create delivery lines and from delivery lines sales orders. Also there is no longer a requirement to ship from Job Inventory only, deliveries can be made from Inventory as well as from Job Inventory. IEM follows the Locations Warehouse settings:

  1. Create a planning line and set the Application to Deliver.
    • Copy from a budget line
    • Create as New in the Job Item Planning lines
  2. Post the Job Item Planning line to create a Posted Job Delivery.
    • When the Job Item Planning line is NOT Job Specific an automatic transfer of inventory to job specific inventory is made.
    • When the Job Item Planning line is Job Specific make sure to first have Job Specific inventory available.

Notes:

  • Posted Deliveries are linked to the Job Task and can be found in the Job Task factbox
  • From the Posted Delivery a Posted Delivery Report can be printed as shipping document
  • The Posted Delivery Line has an Undo Delivery action to roll back the delivery posting

Undo Delivery

Posting a planning line of the type Deliver will result in a Posted Delivery Line. These posted delivery lines are grouped as per the posting event. When posting a delivery, the item is taken out of inventory as a “negative adjustment’.
Note: In IEM for BC there is no longer a restriction on delivering from Job Inventory.

To undo a Delivery:

  1. From the Job Task Information fact box open the Posted Deliveries for that Job Tasks
  2. In the Posted Job Delivery page select the posted delivery
  3. In the Posted Delivery lines select the line(s) you would like to Undo
  4. From the Line Functions menu select Undo Delivery
  5. Confirm the pop-up: “Do you really want to undo the selected Shipment lines?”

This function will reverse the delivery resulting in a negative posted delivery line. Based on the initial delivery the following entries are made: When shipped from inventory:
A negative job ledger entry to reverse the usage costs from the job.
A positive negative adjustment item ledger entry to increase the inventory. When shipped from job inventory:
A positive negative adjustment item ledger entry to increase the inventory.
A negative job ledger entry is not made as the return was to job inventory.

Returning material

In today’s world the circular economy is becoming more and more important. For that reason, it is important that in projects, used, material can be taken in to be refurbished and used in the project. The focus of this new feature is on being able to handle planned returns through a warehouse receipt and post the returns to inventory while showing the return value in the project’s budget and ledger entries. Warehouse employees are able to retrieve return planning lines in a warehouse receipt. When the warehouse receipt and the put-away is posted job – and item ledger entries are created to show the returned items in inventory as well as in the project.

  • To estimate returns create budget lines with a negative quantity.
  • Copy the budget lines to planning, or create planning lines direct, to process the actual return.
Negative planning lines cannot be handled as "Job Specific", the copy function will uncheck the Job Sepcific setting where necessary.
  • In a Location without bins these lines can be posted direct or through the Job Journal.
  • For Locations with bins use the “Get Source Documents…” action from the Warehouse Receipt to retrieve planning lines with a negative, remaining, quantity.
Posting the receipt results in the same posting as through the Job Journal.
