Service Integration - Introduction

Service Integration integrates the Project Control Suite with the Microsoft Dynamics Business Central Service module in 2 ways:

  1. From Projects to Service
  2. From Service to Projects
  3. Plant Maintenance

From Projects to Service

Once a Projectis finished a company might want to transfer the end-result of the Project(the Deliverable) to the installed base and from there manage it through the service department. This transfer can be managed from 2 levels:

  1. The ProjectDeliverable to be linked to a Service Object
  2. The ProjectItem to be linked to a Service Item

The process of creating a ProjectDeliverable should be considered as a hand-over between project – and service manager.
Service Objects are part of the STAEDEAN Service Integration and have been introduced as the service side equivalent of a ProjectDeliverable. The ProjectDeliverable is the end result of a Projectand in most cases customer specific. A Service Object can be easily created from the ProjectDeliverable, already in an early stage of the Project, in order to involve the Service Department early.
In the Service Department the Service Object is an aggregation level for Service Items. Since the Service Object is customer and location specific only Service Items with the same customer can be linked to the Service Objects. When complete the Service Object is used to add all Service Items to a Service Contract, selecting the Service Object will automatically insert the linked Service Items in the Service Contract Lines. From the ProjectService Items are created from Items consumed/delivered in/from the Projectwhen the item is part of a Service Item Group and the Create Service Item is checked. The Service Items are linked to the Service Object created from the ProjectDeliverable. In this way the Service Object can be build up from within the Projectto reflect a true "as installed" product structure.

From Service to Projects

In large maintenance or overhaul projects a company might want to run the service as a project. In that scenario the planning and invoicing capabilities of a Projectare used while all consumption on the service order is posted to the Project. By selecting a Service Order Type you can link a Service Order to an existing Projector create a new Projectbased on a template. The service items in the service order are linked to a Project Task. All consumption on the Service Order will be posted from the Projectfrom where it can be invoiced.

Plant Maintenance

For planning purposes it is important to know when equipment is not available due to maintenance. With the Service Integration app you can link service items to resources of the type machine or work/machine centers through a maintenance plan. From the maintenance plan service orders are generated and when the service is activated absence entries are added to the calendars of the linked resources or work/machine centers.

Setups

Service Integration requires the following setups:

  1. Service Object number series in Projects Setup.
  2. Service Order Type:
    1. ProjectManagement, check if this type must be managed from a Project.
    2. ProjectTemplate, select a template if a projectmust be created from a service order.
    3. ProjectNumber series, select the numbering method to be used for the Project(Service Order or ProjectTemplate).
  3. Repair Status Setup, check in which state a Resource Task must be created or updated.
