Warehouse Integration
The Project Control Suite (APM) extension for warehousing is based on the Business Central feature: Enable inventory and warehouse pick from Projects. This feature must be enabled in Feature Management to make the AJM extension work. Note: This feature is available as of April 1, 2022 (2022 wave 1) and will be automatically enabled in Release 22 (2023, Wave 1)
Receiving
The standard behavior in BC is to automatically consume inventory after posting a purchase order for a Project as received. In AJM this behavior was changed to enable the posting action on the project planning line. This also means that Require Receive and / or Require Put-away on the Location card is enabled for Projects.
The process is based on the warehouse settings per location:
Require Put-Away
- Basic warehousing, order by order
- From the, released, purchase order use the "Create Inventory Put-Away/Pick ..." to create a Put-Away document.
- From Purchase Order > Related > Invt. Put-Away/Pick Lines you can open the Inventory Put-Away document.
- In the Put-Away document you have to select a Bin code when Bins are mandatory.
- Posting the Inventory Put-Away will also post the related Purchase Lines either as Receive or Receive and Invoice.
Require Receive and require put-away
- Advanced warehousing, multiple orders
- From the, released, purchase order use the "Create Warehouse Receipt" to create a Warehouse Receipt.
- The warehouse receipt will open automatically.
- Posting the warehouse receipt will also post the related Purchase Lines either as Receive or Receive and Invoice.
- The warehouse will create a Warehouse Put-Away which must be registered to actually put the received items in the selected bin.
Consume and Deliver
Posting the project planing line supports 2 scenarios set by the application type: Consume or Deliver.
- Consume creates a negative adjustment in inventory as well as a project ledger entry, effectively moving the value from inventory to work in process (WIP).
- Deliver creates an additional Posted Delivery which can be used as a formal document to support the delivery to, for example, a project or service site. Since this application type is also consumed the same To-Project Bin Code is used.
Registering the pick will take material out of the warehouse and posting the planning line will take the same material out of inventory. If that is not the end of your business process use Transport and Deliveries to track and manage shipping:
- Containers, as part of the picking process use the Container Worksheet to create containers and add the picked materials to this container. When the container is full set the status to Closed and start a new container.
- Transport Orders, add containers to Transport Orders, optionally add transport costs to the transport order. Transport orders combine containers with the same pick-up and delivery address and the same shipping agent and - service.
- Delivery Trips, when planning deliveries into the future create delivery trips and add transport orders as they are completed. Delivery trips combine transport orders with the same shipping agent and - service. In other words a delivery trip can have multiple stops or can be split over multiple loads.
Consume with require pick
- Basic warehousing, order by order
- Release the project planning line, note: with this warehousing setting the Qty. To Post on the project planning will remain empty. Registering the Pick will also post the project planning line.
- From the project task list use the Create Inventory Pick.
Deliver with require pick
- Advanced warehousing, multiple orders, available since update 5 of release 2022, wave 2
- In IEM-PCS deliveries are picked in the same way as project planning lines to be consumed. The difference is that when the project planning line is posted also a Posted Delivery is created.
- Besides the posted delivery you have the option to pick the material into a container, add the Container to a Transport Order to organize the shipment.
Pick worksheet
- To organize a shipment for multiple Project Tasks use the Pick Worksheet
- Make sure to have a Warehouse Worksheet Template of the type Pick per Location.
- In the Pick Worksheet use Get Warehouse Documents to retrieve lines (Project Usage)
- When complete use Create Pick to create the Pick document, the request page offers various options for sorting the Pick
Cross Dock
Project Control Suite supports the Cross-Dock scenario in warehousing where you can set a cross-dock bin code per project task. When not set per task the default cross-dock bin for the Project will be used and when that is not set the Location Cross-Dock Bin Code will be used.
Cross-dock Setup
Make sure to make the Cross-Dock Bin field visible in the Bins list per Location and mark one or more bin codes as cross-dock bin. The Calculate Cross Dock action is available in the Warehouse Receipt, in other words the Location must be set as Require Receipt
