About: SMTPWRITER endpoint

In Business Integration Solutions, use the SMTPWRITER endpoint to write messages to an SMTP server.

Usage

Use this endpoint to send notification messages using Simple Mail Transfer Protocol to a mail server for relaying.

Concept

To relay your notification messages, provide the SMTP server details and SMTP port. If you choose the Basic authentication type, you can also provide user credentials. Select Secure Connection if your SMTP mail server requires a secure connection such as SSL.

This endpoint works best with the following activities:

• XML To HTML Translator activity: Provides messages in HTML or plain text format.
• Attachment Generator activity: Attaches standard Microsoft Dynamics BC reports in PDF, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Excel formats.

An SMTP server must be configured and the server administrator must ensure that the client can use the server. To test or demo emails using SMTP, you can use the Papercut tool, which acts as a virtual SMTP server.
