How to: Pick Items with a Warehouse Staged Pick

When your warehouse is set up to require warehouse pick processing, you can combine multiple pick requests for the same item on a warehouse staged pick. You can then issue individual picks against staged pick quantities. Click here for more about the concept of staged picking.

The following steps describe how to pick items with a staged pick for outbound documents such as sales, transfer, and purchase return orders. The same procedure can be followed for production orders, but for simplicity only outbound orders are described in detail.

To create a warehouse staged pick

  1. In the Search box, enter Order Shipping, and then choose the related link.
  2. Select the outbound transactions you want to pick.
  3. On the Navigate tab, in the Order group, choose Stage. The Warehouse Staged Pick window appears.

The Items to Stage FastTab displays a single line for each item that must be staged. If the same item is present on multiple source documents, the program combines these quantities into a single amount. The item quantities that appear on each source document can be viewed on the Orders FastTab.

The first step in completing a staged pick is to pick items to the defined staging bin.

To stage items

  1. In the Warehouse Staged Pick window, on the Actions tab, in the Functions group, choose Pick Items (To Staging Bin).
  2. Fill in the fields (all are optional) in the request window as you wish and choose the OK button.

A warehouse pick is generated based on the lines on the Items to Stage FastTab.

  1. In the Search box, enter Picks, and then choose the related link.
  2.  Select the pick instruction that was generated from the staged pick.

You can sort the lines, assign an employee to the pick, set a break-bulk filter, and print the instructions.

  1. Perform the pick and place the items in the specified staging bin.
  2. On the Actions tab, in the Registering group, choose Register Pick.

The program updates the Qty. Staged field on the Items to Stage FastTab of the staged pick.

Once items have been picked to the staging bin, individual picks based on the related source documents can be generated from the staged pick.

If you are picking for outbound documents, you must create a warehouse shipment for these documents before you can generate warehouse picks. You do not have to create picks from the warehouse shipment, however.
