Registering Shorts in the Warehouse

When a short is noticed, it needs to be resolved immediately in order to keep the information for both the warehouse and the customer as up-to-date as possible. This means that the warehouse employee must register shorts at the earliest possible moment.
Shorts can be resolved in two different ways. They can be changed so that the quantity outstanding matches the actual quantity picked, or a substitute item can be entered to replace the original item.

To Resolve Shorts

  1. Go to the warehouse shipment and select the appropriate line.
  2. On the line, set the appropriate action in the short action field.
  3. On the line, check the field Short.
  4. On the lines fast tab, in the home group, select process and then choose resolve shorts.
  5. In the change sales line wizard window, confirm the action to take and choose next.
  6. If the action to take is "change quantity", then enter the correct quantity and choose Finish.
  7. If the action to take is "substitute", enter the substitute item, enter the quantity and choose Finish.

The result of the action is that either the quantity of the items to be shipped reflects the available quantity in case of a short, or a new item is added to the sales order line to (partly) substitute the original item. > For more information on how to work with fields and columns, see Work with Data.
