Transfer WIP from Production to Project

To track all the details of work related to a ProjectIndustrial Equipment Manufacturing - Manufacturing Integration makes it possible to transfer the WIP entries from a released production order to a Project.

About This walk-through

This walk-through provides an overview of how to setup for the WIP transfer and to process. This walk-through illustrates the following tasks:

  • Check Manufacturing Setup.
  • Create a production order from a Project.
  • Post consumption and output to a production order.
  • Change the status of the production order to Finished.
  • Monitor the ProjectWIP and post consumption of the finished item

Prerequisites

To complete this walk-through, you will need: • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central. • CRONUS International Ltd. demonstration database. • STAEDEAN IEM RapidStart demo set.

Story

Eduardo is the project planner at CRONUS International Ltd. Eduardo notices from the projectplanning lines a requirement for part no. 1150 and decides to create a production order through Order Planning

Setup

Make sure the "Transfer WIP from Production to Project" setting in Manufacturing Setup is true

  1. Choose the Lightbulb that opens the Tell Me feature icon (Alt+Q) enter Manufacturing Setup and click the relevant link.
  2. Select Manufacturing Solution Setup under the Administration section to open the setup page.
  3. For IEM-Manufacturing Integration one setting has been added: Transfer WIP from Production to Project.

Process

Create a Production Order

  1. Open a Project(or create one) and select a Project Task of the type Posting.
  2. Open the Project Planning Lines
  3. Add a new line for item 1150 with a quantity of 2
  4. Release the ProjectPlanning Line
  5. From the ProjectPlanning Line - Item Planning Menu open Order Planning
  6. On the Order Planning page select Calculate Plan which should result in a new line for item 1150
  7. Select the line and click Make Order
  8. On the Make Supply Orders page make sure the field Make Orders for is set to The Active Order and the Production Order field shows Firm Planned
  9. Click OK to complete the Make Order process

Post consumption and output to the production order

  1. From Order Planning return to the ProjectPlanning Page and from the Item Planning menu use Show Replenishment Document.
  2. In the ProjectRelation List click on the Production Order in the Source Record ID column
  3. In the View - Prod. Order Line List click on Show Document to open the Firm Planned Production order
  4. Change the status of the production order to Released and open the released production order
  5. Verify that components are in inventory by running the Order Planning (Related > Order > Planning)
    1. If a purchase order has been created, receive the purchase order
  6. From the production order line open the Production Journal
  7. Specify setup and run times and mark the operations as Finished
  8. Post the production journal

When the production journal posting is completed you can verify the production order Work In Process from Related > Order > Entries.
To transfer these entries to the projectFinish the production order

Finish the production order

  1. In the released production order use the Change Status action to open the pop-up
  2. Select Finish, leave the other options un changed.
  3. When completed return to the project
  4. Open the ProjectLedger Entries and note the new entries for use of components and setup and run time
    1. Also note that there is no projectledger entry for the finished product since the costs are already recorded as details
    2. On the projectplanning line you can see that the finished product is in reserved inventory
    3. Post the projectplanning line to create an Item Ledger Entry type of Negative Adjustment to consume, or deliver the finished product.
