How to: Create a Container
Container-types must be set up for items before they can be assigned to a container. The system will return an error if a non-assigned items is being placed on a container.
When you are creating a container, there are mandatory, optional and informational fields.
To create a container.
- In the search box, enter Containers, and then choose the related link.
- On the home tab, in the new group, choose new. Create a Container card
- Fill in the fields on the card. The following fields are required:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Id | Specifies the number of the record in the number series of container cards. |
License Plate | This is a unique number identifying the container. The system is set up so that the license plate is equal to the ID. The user can decide to enter a different License Plate number. This is usually done when containers are uniquely identifiable and traceable, i.e. for serialized containers. |
Inbound | If the container will be linked to an inbound receipt, flag this field. |
Container Type Code | Specifies the container type the container belongs to. When you set up containers, the Container Type indicates whether the container has is tracked through the inventory, maintains inventory value and needs to be tracked through a serial number. |
Description | A free description of the container, automatically filled with the description of the Container Type Code |
Container Serial No. | If the Container Type Code states that the container is serializable, the serial number of the container must be entered. Be aware that this serial number must be available in the inventory for the stated location. It is NOT necessary to move the container to the desired bin. Business Central Food does keep track of containers per location, but not if containers are available in a specific bin. Once a container is moved to a bin-controlled location, all bins in that location can use the containers available. |
Location Code | If you are working with locations, the location code where the container is used must be filled here. |
Bin Code | If you are working in a bin-controlled environment, you must enter the bin code where the container is used. When putting items on ths container, the system will check if the container and the items are in the same bin. |
