How to: Use Containers in a Receipt Process
If a company uses advance shipping notices or in any other way receives information on containers and its content that will be received, this information can be entered before receiving the items. This could simplify the receipt process because containers and content are already in the system and the only check that needs to be performed is whether the actual receipt matches the containers already in the system.
Inbound containers can be created from and linked to a purchase order or a created Warehouse Receipt.
Adding containers to a Purchase Order:
- In the search box, enter Purchase Order and then choose the related link.
- From the list, select the correct order.
- On the Navigate tab, in the Order group, choose Containers.
- In the Container Assignment page that opens and fill the Container Type Code.
- Use the lookup in the License Plate field and select the correct container from the list if you want to use an existing (empty) container.
- Use the "New" button to create a new container that will automatically be assigned to the inbound process.
- Once the line in the container assignment page is complete, use the "Edit" button to open the Container page and add the items to the container
Adding existing containers to a warehouse receipt:
- In the search box, enter Warehouse Receipt and then choose the related link.
- From the list, select the correct line.
- On the home tab, in the Process group, choose Containers.
Once a container is received into inventory, it can still contain multiple items. These need to be removed before a container becomes a warehouse container and can be moved into the warehouse or used in other processes. For more information on how to split containers, click here
