How to: Change Container Contents
When you have created a container, you can put items onto the container as part of a warehouse movement, as part of production output posting, as part of a warehouse receiving or warehouse shipping process, a warehouse pick or a warehouse put-away.
Part of this process is entering information on lot numbers, alternate quantities, catchweight, Serial numbers, variant Codes and Unit of Measure.
As long as the container is not linked to an inbound or an outbound source document, it is thought to be a warehouse container and can therefore only contain a single item. It can however contain multiple lots and units of measure of this single item. Once a container is associated with an inbound or outbound source document, it is thought to be shipping container. From that moment on it can contain different items.
The easiest method of adding items to a container is inputting the data directly in the Container Card.
The items are considered to be "loose" as long as they are not part of a container (not containerized).
Putting the loose items on the container is done by creating a line on the container card, filling in the Item No., the quantity, and other information if and when necessary.
Add loose items to a container:
- In the search box, enter Containers, and then choose the related link.
- On the home tab, in the manage group, choose edit.
- On the Lines fast-tab, the following fields are required:
Field | Description |
---|---|
Item No. | Fill the item number of the item you wish to put in the container. |
Variant Code | Specify the variant code if applicable. |
Lot No. | Specify the lot number if applicable. |
Serial No. | Specify the serial number if applicable. |
Quantity | Enter the quantity. |
Unit of Measure | If necessary change the standard UoM of the item. |
Quantity (Alt.) | If the item is a catchweight item, enter the alternate quantity. |
Of course, once a container is associated with an inbound or an outbound document, it is possible to enter different items on the container by using this method.
The system will however check whether the remaining quantity on the document line is equal to or greater than the quantity on the container line.
If not, the container contains too much of the item. The container needs to be unpacked first so that the quantity on the container equals the quantity on the document line.
