How to: Assign containers to a Warehous Pick

When using warehouse picks, it is possible to link an entire warehouse container and its content to a "take" line. You can use the container lookup on the line that filters automatically on the correct values in the pick line. Additional information such as lot nos will be transferred from the container to the line.

Once a container is selected, a quantity-check is executed. There are three possible outcomes:

  1. The quantity on the line matches the quantity on the container > the license plate ID is entered in the column and the "take" line is complete.
  2. The quantity on the line is greater that the quantity on the container > The "Take" line is split. The "Qty. Outstanding" on the original line will be set to the quantity on the container. A new line is created with the remainder of the quantity.
  3. The quantity on the container is greater than the quantity on the line > the user needs to make a decision on whether to move this container to the place-line (effectively letting the remaining container-content remain in the bin as Loose), or leave the container with the remaining items behind in the bin.

On the "place" line multiple options are possible when working with containers. The possible scenarios are:

  1. No containers in the shipping bin > the field "Container License plate" remains empty on the "place" line, the items are considered to be loose inventory in the shipping bin.
  2. The container from the "take" line is also used on the "place" line > This implies that the entire container is moved to the shipping bin and therefore becomes a shipping container. This container can now be used on multiple "place" lines for the same pick document after registering the first take- and placeline. This tells the system the container has actually moved to the shipping-bin.
  3. A new container is created in the shipping bin > On the fast-tab, under functions, use the "new container" option to create a new container that will automatically be placed in the shipping bin. Please note that this functionality only works on "place" lines.

Adding a new container to a warehouse pick "place" line:

  • From the list, select the correct line.
  • On the home tab, in the manage group, choose edit.
  • Select the correct "place" line and on the lines fast-tab select Functions and New Container. Fill in the following fields:
Field Description
License plate Change the license plate if necessary

Automatically flag the container as “Ship” in a Warehouse Shipment

On the Location Card a boolean Container Pick and Ship is added.

  1. If this setting is No (default value), then the current functionality is valid.
  2. If this setting is set to Yes, then registering the pick lines with that container, will automatically flag the container as "ship" on the Warehouse Shipment Container Assignment page. The customer does not need to take the second step and registering the pick automatically updates the Warehouse Shipment Line field "Quantity to Ship".
