Design Detail: Resources in Manufacturing
With the spring 2019 release of IEM for Business Central the Resource Task allows you to track Setup and Runtime for the operator separate from the machine time.
The setup for this is first of all based on the settings in the Routing Operation. In the "Operation Resources", Resource Groups can be assigned to the operation for Setup - as well as for Runtime. With the % based setting multiple Resources or Resource Groups can be assigned each for a part of the assignment. By linking a Resource of the type Machine to the Work - or Machine centre on the operation the machine time can be tracked through the resource card.
When the operator starts the task the program detects if a resource - machine is linked and, based on the setting on the work - / machine center card, will start a time input line for the machine time as well. When the operator stops his/her task while a machine task is running, the program prompts the user with the question if the machine task must be stopped and if output has to be posted. When the answer is No the machine will continue to run "unmanned". To stop the machine task, an operator starts and stops a task to open the "stop machine" sequence again.
With this new functionality the previous "Mixed Capacity Calculation" has been simplified. The same task is used for Setup -, Run time and Machine time. As the Machine task is bypassing the time registration when posted production order progress is more up to date as it does not have to wait for the registration, approval and posting of time sheets. The standard cost posting for capacity costs is followed with the additional option to add the cost of the operator to the capacity costs.
Assigning resources, or resource groups, to operations
You can select a resource or resource-group in the following pages:
- Standard Task Resource (./Departments/Manufacturing/Administration/Standard Task - Navigate/Resources). The standard task is used as a "template" for creating operations in routings.
- Routing Resources (./Departments/Manufacturing/Product Design/Routings - Operation/Resources). This routing (when certified) will be used in the production order.
- Production Order routing lines (./Departments/Manufacturing/Execution/[Planned - Firm Planned - Released] Prod. Orders - Lines/Routing - Navigate/Resources).
In each of the above pages you have to complete the following fields:

| Operation % | Select the amount of time for the assignment based on a percentage, ie 100% means the selected resource group or resource will complete 100% of the time shown in prod. order need. |

Linking a work- / machine center to a resource-machine
A Work / Machine center can be linked to a Resource-Machine to enable the use of Resource Tasks in Manufacturing. The objective is to be able to start and stop the machine from the resource (operator) task. Compared to previous releases the Manufacturing tab is no longer available for a Resource-Machine, the Time Registration tab is hidden for the machine type resource but available for a person type resource.
On the Work - or Machine center card you can select a Resource-Machine. The selection lookup is filtered on the resource-machine type and the link is validated to be 1:1 only.
Make sure to pay attention to the Units of Measure of both entities. The production UOM are identified by a type, either [100/Hour, Minutes, Hours, Days]. The Unit Of Mwasure table is extended with a type field which will be copied to the Resource Unit Of Measure.
